Pallet transfer is essential for many reasons like damage during transit. A damaged pallet is unsafe for stacking. It is also not a good idea to send damaged pallets to your customers. Several businesses replace the incoming one-use pallets with their proprietary internal pallets to suit their internal logistic system.

Choose an ergonomic solution for safety

Sometimes the products placed in the pallet bottom get damaged via improper handling of the forklift, especially the items packed in bags. The damaged bags need to be replaced or the other bags on top will become unstable. To replace the broken bag or sack the pile on top needs to be transferred to a new pallet.

Manual transfer of unit loads is challenging. For example, if the limited number of pallets an operator handles during stacking is 10 every week looks fine. In reality, the operator handles 1000 kg which is 10 tonnes with his hand in a week. The downtime and workplace injury risk is genuine [associated with stretching and stacking or reaching]. Only when there are a few pallets involved annually opt for manual pallet stacking otherwise it is not recommended in terms of efficiency and ergonomics.

You can choose a vacuum lifter to ensure that the stacking task is performed ergonomically. However, if you plan a quick stacking process then choose a pallet tipper. There are different pallet changer types available, each has its specific features. TopIndustries has 50 pallet inverter models and you will certainly find one to suit your needs.

Criteria to consider while choosing a pallet inverter

Does your business handle loads of the same kind regularly? Is it bagged? Or packaged? Or boxed? Or is it a mixture of all? Or has unique shapes like drums? It is the kind of product you will handle determines the kind of pallet handling equipment to choose.

  • For bags, a 180° pallet tilter is the only solution. The load is placed inside the machine and tilted to 180° for pallet switching efficiently. If bags get tilted at 95° then the risk of the load falling is high.
  • In the 180° models, there are multiple options. Determine load height for tilting. You will need the maximum and minimum height of the unit load. The difference between both will determine the cylinder clamping range.
  • If the height range between minimum and maximum is too high then choose a pallet inverter with two clamps. It allows for maintaining a center of gravity while rotating. This prevents overloading the motor.
  • If the height range between minimum and maximum is limited then choose a pallet inverter with a single clamp and save on investment. A single clamp means the clamping table will not reach the ground, so you will need a forklift truck to load it.
  • When you are tight in floor space then the ground load model is an ideal solution you will not even need a forklift truck but a pallet jack is great.
  • For flipping hard-to-handle materials like plastic sheets, thin gauge metal sheets, newspaper inserts, and gloss printed material then considers the ramp load pallet inverters.
  • If your load is only between 12 to 15unit loads a day then check out the economical low-duty models.
